E-mail od Wojciecha Jacobsona: …Z wielką radością informuję, że Wojtek (Victor) Wejer – polski żeglarz z Toronto, były członek szczecińskiego Jacht Klubu AZS (w latach 1958 – 1967 – przyp. red.), został wyróżniony Nagrodą za Zasługi (excellence, gratitude) Ocean Cruising Club roku 2016 za „Wybitne dokonania w społeczności żeglarskiej”.
Do nagrody tej został nominowany podwójnie:
- Za szerokie, zdalne, wspieranie jachtów żeglujących przez Przejście Północno-Zachodnie. W latach 2006-2016 Wojtek (Victor) Wejer dostarczał wielu jachtom bezinteresowne rady dotyczące pogody, zalodzenia i wyboru trasy.
- Wojtek (Victor) Wejer przyczynił się do bezpiecznego i pomyślnego pokonania Przejścia Północno-Zachodniego przez wiele jachtów. Dostarczał bezinteresownie wyważone informacje i ekspertyzy wszystkim, którzy prosili go o pomoc i ostrzegał marzycieli i lekkomyślnych przed podjęciem niebezpiecznych decyzji. Od roku 2006 do 2016 dał wsparcie 42 jachtom płynącym przez NW Passage wraz z jachtem, który w r.2016 jako pierwszy w historii przeszedł przez cieśninę Fury and Hecla.
Uzasadnienie i otrzymane zawiadomienie jest w oryginale znacznie szersze i bardziej pochlebne. Polskie jachty, które pokonały Przejście Północno-Zachodnie: Stary, Nekton, Solanus i Lady Dana 44 i polsko-szwedzka załoga jachtu Anna również korzystały z rad Wojtka Wejera.
Wręczenie nagrody będzie miało miejsce podczas dorocznego wręczenia nagród Ocean Cruising Club, 2. kwietnia 2017 r. w Greenland Campus, Henley-on-Thames, w Wielkiej Brytanii.

Victor has provided free weather, ice and routing advice to many yachts
(42 from 2006-2016), including several OCC yachts.
Before I met Victor, he contacted me via email and offered his help with anything. I was coming south from Baffin Island and looking to winter in Toronto, where he lived, so I asked him to find a marina I could get my boat into and live aboard for the winter, which he did. When I sailed the NW Passage (2011), he cheerfully provided periodic weather and ice updates to my satphone via (free) SMS messages.
Victor seems well-known among NW Passage sailors, and his name came up multiple times last year in Ushuaia when talking with other boats heading to Antarctica who knew of him from the NW Passage.

Victor Wejer has been instrumental in the success and safety of many transits of the Northwest Passage – mine among them.
He has provided critical information and expertise without any recompense to those who have approached him for advice as well as cautioning the dreamers and the unwary concerning a dangerous undertaking. From 2006 until 2016 he has given assistance to 42 sailing vessels making the passage including the first sailboat to transit by way of Fury and Hecla Strait (2016). Over the years he has collected information concerning methods, shelters, anchorages, ice conditions and equipment from both voyagers who have succeeded as well as those who have failed in their attempts to sail this unique and often very unpredictable passage. Victor has collated various accounts to create a truly valuable body of work which he updates and regularly shares. He takes an interest in voyagers in the NW Passage as I can personally attest and is a friend to many as well as an advisor taking into account crew as well as vessel strength. I can think of no better example of Victor’s invaluable advise than to quote an early communication to me; „I have gotten many calls from different adventurers wanting to make the NW crossing. For most I strongly advise them to stay away. One has to have the correct mindset. This is not an adventure, it’s a dangerous trip for the unprepared. A perfect crossing will have no story to tell at the end. No problems. No issues. No disasters. All ice openings are taken advantage of. As one Arctic explorer used to say 'adventure is a sign of incompetence.'” I think Victor Wejer is strongly deserving of the OCC Award of Merit for his unselfish and outstanding service and advise to international
Arctic sailors.
Trochę wcześniej w styczniu br. otrzymałem srebrny medal “Franklin’s Lost Expedition” prywatnie ufundowany w Royal Canadian Yacht Club.Jest to srebrna (99.9%) moneta $20,- nominał o wadze 1 uncji wybita w Kanadyjskiej Mennicy o wartości $100,-… (Wojtek Victor Wejer).
